Great project to be involved with. GGP Consult undertook site surveys, review of the exisiting abutments and designed bespoke steel cill beams and parapet extensions to allow the use of Mabey Quickbridge. #bridge #temporaryworks #rail

Recently, AmcoGiffen’s NW&C team completed the design and fabrication of a custom bridge deck for Network Rail using the innovative Mabey Quickbridge at Jacks Lane in Westhoughton, Wigan.

An almost exact fit, the prefabricated system was slightly lengthened by AmcoGiffen’s in-house fabrication facility, adding two bespoke transfer beams to translate the bearing arrangement of the Quickbridge, such that the new bridge would fit within the existing location.

The benefits of using this system were that we could achieve rapid replacement of the existing deck with the new, whilst minimizing the modifications required. This, coupled with the use of propriety temporary works edge protection ensured the bridge installation did not require closure of the railway, keeping passenger services open for commuters using this vital transport link.

To protect communities, the install was finalised with the addition of bespoke parapet units to provide enhanced anti-climb provision and improvements to the roadway on the approaches.

Throughout the project, all COVID-19 social distancing protocols were maintained.
